Thanks to all who helped at the 47th Biennial Highway Cleanup on October 15

On Saturday, October 15th, the Idaho section of the American Nuclear Society held the second highway cleanup of 2016. Chris Ischay has been running the program since 1996. He still uses the original map he made all the way back then. It was raining hard late on Friday night, so I was concerned that it would carry over to Saturday morning. It’s getting late in the year, so we would be running out of opportunities. However, while is was fairly blustery and cloudy, there was no rain.

We had twelve people participate: five UI and BYU-UI students, two UI faculty, and INL researchers and finished in under 3 hours, just shortly before noon. We collected 22 big bags of trash. It is a lot of work, but it’s an important way to be part of the Idaho Falls community.

Afterwards, we had a relaxing lunch at Pizza Hut. The students really enjoyed being able to talk directly with the INL researchers, and we had some great conversations about researching and mentoring.
